Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva
The Chianti Classico Riserva comes from a selection of grapes from vineyards which are more suitable for long maturing. Vinified in steel with a maceration of about 20 days, and as a second passage, it is aged in smaller wooden barrels for about 18 months, to then rest for a minimum of 3 months in glass. Pure cherry takes center stage, framed by tar, earth, tobacco and mineral elements. Vivid and elegant, showing fine intensity and equilibrium, with a lingering aftertaste.
The 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva 50 Vendemmie shows pretty layers of intensity and wild fruit, but it never strays far from its Sangiovese roots (20% Colorino and Canaiolo are also in the blend).
