This Williams Sonoma Gadget Allows You To Have Wine On Tap

on

Wine lovers, take a deep breath because Williams Sonoma isn’t playing around. Plum, aka the only wine appliance you’ll ever need, lets you drink a perfectly-chilled glass of wine anytime you want, from the comfort of your own home.

Now, methinks this is a better solution to the single glass of wine dilemma that you may or may not have read me rant about. However, like all good things in life, Plum doesn’t come cheap. At a whopping $1,500 you have really got to love having wine available at the drop of a hat to purchase this appliance (unless you’re rich, in which case, buy away).

How It Works

The machine fits two bottles of wine, each of which are placed into the machine at a 55° angle. A motorized needle pieces the foil and cork without removing the closure, pressurizing the bottle with argon gas. This keeps oxygen out and preserves the bottle of wine for as long as it takes you to finish it. It works regardless of the bottle type … you can put a natural, artificial, or engineered cork in there, or even a bottle with a metal screw cap (if you have $1,500 to spend on a gadget we doubt you’d be buying those).

The machine also has an internal computer which stores data on more than six million wines. Using this and a camera, the label of each bottle of wine shows up on the front of the Plum. Since the Plum connects to WiFi, you can keep track of your wine history and look at what other friends and winemakers are drinking too. In addition to this, you can also customise your drink size with a few pushes of a button.

So, if you’ve got fifteen hundred dollars to spare, honestly, what are you waiting for!
