How long can you go without water? A few hours, a day, a week? The human body is designed in a way that it can go for maximum 4 days without water. But that’s the average human, which Peter Filak might not be because he went on for 3 years (and counting) without it.
Now we’ve seen a number of crazy diets before but this definitely takes the cake.
Filak who was once a registered nurse, resigned from the job, as he didn’t agree with the doctors’ treatment methods, which included giving the patients water to drink. Currently a ‘webcam model’ (a more acceptable way of defining an online adult star), he stopped drinking water at precisely 5 PM on May 5th, 2012. He does claim to have had a couple sodas and flavored milks in the initial days of the experiment but that was about all.
Keeping Away From Chemicals
On his website, More Apples A Day, Filak explains his reason for giving up the liquid life source. “Even when you’re filtering water, you’re taking out one chemical and putting in another …[especially] the filtered water where chlorine and fluoride and all those other happy things are added to it,” The Vice quotes him explaining in one of his many video revolving around health and nutrition.
Apart from the no-water diet, Filak is a raw-food vegan and aims to survive solely on fruits and vegetables.
Turns out he’s not alone in this diet. His dog Sachi, a Chihuahua-shih-Tzu-papillon-Pekingese mix, is also on the diet. Animal activists, are we listening?
Where Do The Nutrients Come In?
Peter claims that he consumes about 800 to 1,000 calories everyday all of which come from vegetable and fruits.
Sachi and him feed on a few apples and bananas before they set out for their 8-10 hours hikes. And there hasn’t been a time when he missed a sip of good ol’ water even once. Sachi, of course, was unavailable for comment.
Yes, apparently there are some. even though ignoring water as a whole is not really advisable, Filak – who happens to be against the concept of hydration – claims that in addition to avoiding the chemicals, he spends almost zero time in the kitchen, doesn’t sweat (AT ALL) and has seamless energy for other tasks.
But despite all scientific cons and his personal pros regarding the diet, Filak hopes and truly believes that the diet will allow him to hang around for a good 150 years. Well, amen to that.
