Hospitality Industry Against Human Trafficking

The seminar to curb human trafficking created awareness for hoteliers on how to identify and respond to trafficking for labour or sex and also how to prevent it. “We need to stand together to ensure that travel and tourism are always a positive force for good in the world,” said Arne Sorenson, President and CEO – Marriott International Inc. The seminar in Pune was conducted by Marriott International in collaboration with ECPAT and Polaris.

“In 2017, Marriott mandated human trafficking awareness training that covers all forms of modern slavery,” said Nasir Shaikh, General Manager during the seminar. “This required training applies to all on-property associates. To-date, over 325,000 associates have been trained around the world, with the goal of reaching 100% by 2025,” he added.

“As individuals, as a society and as the hotel community, it is critical and imperative for us to contribute by supporting the movement to prevent human trafficking and also understand our role in the prevention of the same. Through the trainings, the effort is to create awareness and eliminate any form of Human Trafficking,” Shaikh said.
