Vegetarian Street Food At Thindi Beedi In Bengaluru

on

The streets of V.V. Puram in Bengaluru comes alive at around 7PM every day. Once the sun sets, the hustle and bustle at “food street” starts to rev up with delicious street food spread out over a 300 meter stretch. Whatever your heart desires, you are bound to find it at some stall lined up along the street. From North Indian to South Indian to local eats like Akki Roti and Holige, you can get your hands on some of the most delicious food freshly prepared right in front of you.

Here are a few tips that you have to follow and recommendations of our favourite food on Food Street.

Tips To Survive Food Street

1. Parking will be difficult and you need to find other roads leading to Sajjan Rao circle to park your bike or car.
2. Although some stalls start preparing the food earlier, it is recommended to reach Food Street around 7PM. That’s when all the stalls start sending out plates of food as fast as a speeding bullet.
3. Be prepared for the crowd. Since it is only a 300 meter stretch, there will be tons of people jumping from one stall to the other, especially during the weekends. If you don’t like crowds, this place is probably not for you.
4. Sample all the dishes. Although the varieties of food available is overwhelming, take along a friend or two so you can sample all the dishes available on Food street.
5. Look past the hygiene. Although most stalls follow an extremely hygienic method of making food, there is bound to be something that will make you feel all unhealthy. After all, it is street food. Don’t be a negative ninny and enjoy the food as it is served to you without any complaining.

Our Favorites

1. Masala Dosa

Although it looks like a traditional masala dosa, trust us, it’s not. The dosas here are drenched with ghee giving it the flavour beyond words can describe. The crispy and soft combination of traditional dosas is strictly followed here with a spicy chilli mixture and potato masala complimenting the crunchiest dosas available anywhere in Bengaluru.

2. Pav Bhaji

A traditional Mumbai street food delicacy gets all spruced up here. The spicy tomato and potato curry soaked by lightly buttered buns is perfect to devour when the weather is a little chilly. Pav Bhaji is our personal favourite street food and unless you are willing to travel to Mumbai for the authentic version, this is as close as you can get in Bengaluru.

3. Tawa Pulao

Another favourite from the street of Mumbai, Tawa Pulao is a rice dish cooked with vegetables and aromatic spices on a hot tawa (hint hint). The sizzle of the dish being cooked makes this dish even more appetizing. A recommendation, finish your Food Street adventure with this dish because of the quantity that these stalls give. Enjoying other dishes will be difficult once you hog down a plate full of rice.

4. Basundi

A delicious Indian sweet made by boiling milk (for a very long time) and addition of condensed milk making this the best of the lot. Basundi satisfies our sweet tooth after an hour of gulping down the various dosas and rice items on Food Street.

5. Jaljeera

You definitely need something to wash down all the food and help you digest the tons of food that you have already gobbled down. What better way to ease your stomach than gulping down a glass of Jaljeera, a lemon drink flavoured with spices.
