Vegetables In Mumbai May Now Be Sold At Aarey Milk Stalls

Following an ongoing strike by the traders who serve as middle men between farmers and consumers, the state government has come up with a new proposal to get fruits and vegetables to consumers. Since it controls Aarey Milk Colony’s Dairy Development Department, it plans to use this distribution network to help get produce to consum

Fruits and Veggies with Your Milk

The Dairy Development Department has over 400 booths in the city and the government also plans to ask Mother Dairy for access to their outlets. These outlets, which currently sell milk, dairy products, chops, chocolates and drinks can also be used to store and sell fruits and vegetables, giving stall owners a higher income and farmers a place to sell their wares.

Commenting to the Mumbai Mirror, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Horticulture Marketing Sadabhau Khot said the farmers bringing their produce to Mumbai are currently setting up their pitches on pavements. “I am proposing that we use Aarey milk stalls to sell vegetables and fruits,” he said.
