Uber Will Soon Be Bringing UberEATS To India

on

Over the past couple of months, city dwellers in India have become increasingly reliant on Uber. We use the cabs to get to work, to get home after a drink too many and to escape from the heat. Now, Uber will be launching UberEATs; a food delivery app in India.

Meet UberEATS

UberEATS is an on-demand meal delivery service, which began as UberFRESH in Santa Monica. In April 2015, it was renamed UberEATS and expanded to Barcelona, Chicago and New York. Today, it has a presence in around 58 cities across the world.

UberEATS ties up with local restaurants and uses their fleet and drivers to deliver food to customers’ houses. It will operate using the same software that Uber uses and possibly shows customers the real time distance between them and the food they’re ordering.

UberEATS comes to India

Now, Uber has announced that it will be launching UberEATS in India. In a blog post, the company said  “India will be a major step in our regional expansion, following the launch in Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Taipei.”

The service will be available in Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai in its first phase.

“I am incredibly excited about bringing UberEATS to India. This is a significant investment, it spans multiple cities and regions, and it has the potential to change the food industry – with the push of a button – in one of the most vibrant food cultures in the world,” said Allen Penn, Asia Pacific head of UberEATS.
