Tosai is Giving Dosais a New Avatar

on

Tosai, the bright yellow Dosai Shop that can be spotted all over the city, has launched three new innovative Dosai variations – Pasta Dosai, Madras Biryani Masala Dosai and Paneer Tikka Dosai, in addition to the many Dosai toppings on their menu.

Serving up quick meals of Dosai with innovative toppings, Tosai is present all over Chennai, and plans to expand into Coimbatore as well. Started on March 9th, 2017, Tosai has 12 branches in Chennai and one in Pondicherry.

Speaking to Shanmugha Priya at the recently opened Marina Branch, we get some insight into the inspiration behind the place. ‘Tosai gives a new avatar to the traditional Dosa, which is a beloved dish of the young and the old alike. At Tosai, we wanted to develop our own style in fusion food, and make Dosai the next pizza of India,’ she says.

99 Delights

Why is the restaurant called Tosai? It’s a transliteration from the Tamil name for Dosai. The Logo features a black Dosai Kall (pan) with 99 dots on it to represent the 99 varieties of Dosa you can get here. ‘The white bar in the middle represents the purity you can find here as it is only vegetarian,’ says Shanmugha Priya.

The most popular dosais you can get here are the Pizza Dosai and the Hatrick Dosai, and their three new Dosais are fast gaining popularity as well. ‘We wanted to incorporate the favourite flavours of Chennaites in our dosais,’ says Shanmugha Priya.’ We have branches for quick bites all over the city, and we have a full-fledged vegetarian restaurant in Thoraipakkam where you can get vegetarian versions of popular non veg dishes, like Biryani.’

The Hatrick Dosa

We try the Pizza Dosai and the Paav Bhaaji Dosai, and can we just say, it’s almost as much a treat watching the Dosa being topped with bhaaji and cheese, as eating it. Almost.
