This Cashless Tip War Is Worth Grabbing A Bucket Of Popcorn!

on

The Internet has been seeing a new trend of posting ‘open letters’ a lot off late. From criticism and appreciation, to social upheavals and viral content, these letters are capable of everything on social media. One such similar open letter war between a restaurant server and guest has been doing the round on the World Wide Web.

Not more than a week back, a picture of a receipt showing three large eggs for a tip and a snide remark was going viral. Apparently, a newlywed wife (Jenny) was offended with the server (Jessica) for being ‘flirty’ with her, in lieu of which she left a cashless tip that read “He’s my husband! Go find your own! Good luck.” Ouch!2E53876100000578-0-image-m-69_1447219135789

Jessica took in the advice rather gracefully only to let it out on the Internet a while letter through a – you guessed it – open letter! Here’s the tip Jessica had to give.

*WARNING LONG READ AHEAD, BUT ITS A GOOD ONE AND A PSA FROM ALL SERVERS*

I don’t typically talk about work this way, but this needs to be shown/addressed. Mainly because it’s hysterical but partially because I’m offended lol

Anywho, today I had a table of 4 come in. Two couples. The one told me they were there to celebrate part of their honeymoon, which I replied “oh I just got married last month, congratulations.” I assumed they heard me, and we proceeded with the whole “what can I get you” yada yada yada.

Well, as anyone SHOULD know, waitressing is a personable job. To make money you have to be nice, and show you personality. As all of you should know, since you know me, I’m a personable, sarcastic a**hole in the nicest way possible. So ofcourse I let that shine in my job, and at EVERY table.

So, this lady (Jenny) and her husband place their order and she asks me what my name is. I tell her “Jessica” she responds with, “oh, we don’t really like that name. Can we call you Jess” and I laughed and said “yeah, you can call me anything you want. I’ll even respond with a**hole.” In which her husband laughs and proceeds to call me that throughout the whole experience we had as server and guests.

I assumed everything was fine, because they were laughing and having a good time. Well I cash out their check, tell them have a good night and to come back. When I come back from singing “happy birthday” to another guest, the couple and company have left, and on one ticket they tipped me $4, well Jenny decided I did not deserve a monetary tip, so she wrote me a nice note, with a $0 tip saying “he’s my husband, find your own. Good luck. 🙂 ”

And I want to add, Jenny stole my one pen, which she knew was my last because I had apologized that I only had the one to share between the two tickets at the table.

So, Dear Jenny,

I would like you to know, the server that was in the section across from mine, that I kept talking to and checking on throughout the time of you sitting at my table IS MY HUSBAND. Which I found on my own, and looks better than yours. Also, I would like you to know that I’m sorry MY HUSBAND treated me to a cruise for my honeymoon and not a restaurant. As well as, MY HUSBAND would never let me feel so insecure that I would feel the need to write such a terrible note to a server and make them feel the way you have.

So Jenny, here’s a life tip for you from me, your insecurity as a woman is heartbreaking. Have pride in yourself and your relationship with YOUR husband to where you don’t need to put another down to bring yourself up. Especially a server who lives off her tips and needs them to help her husband pay bills. Also, Jenny, I hope you like the pen, because it’s my present to you. One NEWLYWED to another.

P.S – my husband said you can sit in his section next time that way you won’t have to be so worried about your husband “flirting” with a server :). Maybe you’ll see his ring a little better than you saw mine.

Signed, Jessica

The woman you offended by thinking so lowly of, that I would attempt to flirt with a man who is with his wife.

This Time for Jessica!

All was well, the Internet was oozing with praises for the brave server and disgusted shakes for the “insecure” newlywed, until the other woman in question came across the public lashing. Shocked and horrified at the drastic upheaval her ‘tip’ had caused, she too turned to her computer to address the issue.

“SO…Let me tell you what really happened that night….as I AM JENNY!!! Saturday, November 7, 2015 my husband, sister and her boyfriend went out to dinner at TGI Fridays in Centerville, OH. Our server, whose name was Jessica, was rude more so to myself than any of the other 3 at the table, but rude in general to all of us. She cussed at our table, which caught me off guard (very unprofessional) and really seemed to take a liking to my husband. Being a server in the years before I myself know that you can be friendly to your customers in a manner without over-stepping your boundaries and becoming flirty. Her flirty behavior continued all throughout our meal and she continued to in general be rude to me, as stated more so than to the others. So, at the end of our meal I had enough and on the receipt I wrote $0.00 in the tip line and left her a little note at the bottom saying… He’s MY husband, find your own! Good Luck! I laid the receipt on the Fridays payment folder showing the TGI logo and I snapped a picture with my cell phone and we went on our way. We left and honestly I haven’t thought about our experience at the restaurant ever since we walked out the door that night!

SO……. I was sitting at the Dr. yesterday late afternoon in the waiting room, scrolling through facebook and I see something that one of my FB friends had liked. To my surprise IT WAS A NEWS STORY AND VIDEO ABOUT MY NOTE ON THE RECEIPT!!! I read the story, watched the video and was instantly pissed! Our server blew ALL of this out of the water and it has now gone viral. I read lie after lie after lie in her “story”. With all this being said… Let me give you some advice Jessica!!

1st of all….NO ONE told you we were there to celebrate part of our honeymoon! As a matter of fact, not once was it ever mentioned ANYTHING about anyone at the table being married. Are we married? Yes, as a matter of fact we are! Our wedding date was June 27, 2015…AND our honeymoon to Chicago was simply amazing!!!!!! Furthermore – you not once said anything about just being married yourself! Quite frankly the ONLY way you could have known that we were somewhat recently married is by taking my name off the credit card slip and looking me up on Facebook. If you are not my FB friend and you come to my page, you will see that it is pretty private….however you are able to see very few photos…some at which are in fact my wedding pictures (see, only way you would actually know that).

Neither myself or my husband asked you if we could call you Jess! I did ask you your name, but ONLY because you did not tell us when you started taking care of our table and it is nice to know in case we needed you throughout the night for whatever reason! And NO, my husband did not call you a**hole throughout the night, as a matter of fact he never called you a**hole at all…nor did he call you Jess, or Jessica or anything else either!

You claim that after you cashed us out and returned from singing “Happy Birthday” to another guest, we were gone. Again another lie! Servers were singing “Happy Birthday” to another guest WAY before we even got our check because my husband was singing along with the group of servers that were taking part of the singing! When we stood up from our table I looked for you…you and another server were chit chatting in another area. So we left without exchanging words. Now, as we walked to our car I saw you grab the folders from the table and that was that! Mind you NO singing was taking place when we left and i’m pretty certain there wasn’t enough time to “sing” to another guest at another table and make it back to my table as we walked through the parking lot. And as far as you stating I “stole” your pen and I KNEW it was your only pen because you said we had to share the one single pen between the 2 checks at our table….hmmmm please tell me WHY you handed us 2 ink pens to sign our credit receipts? The fact that I even had to ask for an ink pen to sign the receipt was ridiculous in itself! You are a waitress….it is your job to lay a pen down with the credit card slip for your customer to sign, let’s get it together here!

So Jessica – Your husband works with you, how nice! You claim your husband looks better than mine? Thanks for voicing your opinion!! I am HAPPILY in love with MY sexy husband and could care less what any other man or woman for that matter looks like! I feel sorry for you that you had to even compare my husbands looks to yours, that’s just a shame that you would even care! I would also like you to know that my husband treated me to an amazing week in Chicago for our honeymoon. You and your took a cruise, how nice! Please know that my husband has NEVER let me feel insecure in any way whatsoever!! You deserved my note for several reasons, and you are well aware as to why you got it as a tip. Quite frankly the $4 tip you received from the other party at my table wasn’t deserved and it should have been $0.00 as well, but to each its own!

Let me just state this again for you – I am in no way, shape or form insecure with my marriage and I am certainly not insecure with myself as a woman! I DO indeed take pride in my marriage AND in myself and certainly don’t NEED to put anyone down to bring myself up! Plain and simple… YOU are a SERVER, YOU work for tips, YOU earn those tips..its not a hand out program! You chose the job honey, not me!!

As far as we can sit in your husbands section next time so I wont have to worry about you flirting with mine….. let me know where you two are working in a couple of days so we are able to do that!

Jessica honey I certainly hope you are pleased with the outcome of your outlash on myself and my husband at your place of employment that has gone viral nationwide! The REAL insecure woman here is YOURSELF!!

So here is another tip for ya – find a new job outside of serving, it’s not your calling in life!

Signed,

Jenny

The woman who doesn’t put up with lies and BS!”

Following Jenny’s version, TGIF – where the incident took place – issued an apology and has apparently laid Jessica off.

Interestingly enough, both the ladies have extremely different versions of the tale but who decides which one’s correct? Which one would you believe? Let us know in the comments below!
