The Good Girl Show had me obsessed with munching Thekua
Today I watched the first episode of The Good Girl Show, Pooja a character from The Good Girl Show is a Bihari who brings a whole big jar of Thekua from her hometown when she shifts to the big city Delhi to study in Delhi University.
It took me back to the days when I was new in town and my mother gave me a big jar filled with Thekua and Pickle.
It has been years since I ate Thekua but when I saw its reference on the show I couldn’t resist but call up my mom to ask the recipe, I haven’t stopped obsessing over Thekua since then and I want to share this obsession with you too. It’s easy to make snack and you can munch any time of the show

 THEKUA

Thekua is a famous traditionalBihari dish, often used as a Prasad in ChhathPooja.
As Malpuas looked like pancakes, Thekua could be compared to cookies. Isn’t it identical? Looks tempting!

Thekua is sweet in taste, with crisp texture. It’s made with high content of jaggery(gur) and sugar. It also consists of vegetable oils and flour in huge amounts.
Thekua has been a popular sweet since centuries, mainly in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
I always eat thekua whenever I spot one, cannot resist it. Without fearing the calories it has, I go into oblivion.

 TEXTURE

It has a dry texture which is very crunchy and crispy. It is also very thick. It can be made in different shapes and using different molds, here are two examples.

One will definitely enjoy it eating more than cookies for sure!

 RECIPE

Ingredients
• 250 gm wheat flour
• 2 tbsps chopped dry coconut
• 50 gm sugar
• 1 tbsp fennel seed
• 3-4 whole green cardamom
• ½ cup water
• Ghee to fry (set aside 1 tbsp for the flour mixture)
• Dry fruits (optional)

• Mix wheat flour, dry coconut, fennel seeds, dry fruits, crushed cardamom and 1 tbsp of ghee in a pan.
• Now, make sugar syrup by bringing water and sugar to a boil. Boil until sugar is dissolved.
• Add this syrup to the mixture and knead well. Be careful not to make the dough watery. The mixture should be a little wet, enough to make balls out of them.
• Grease your palms with ghee and take a spoonful of the mixture. Make a ball and flatten it by giving it the shape of a small disc. Form such disks out of the entire mixture and set aside.
