on

Earlier today in New Delhi, Commerce and Industries Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the 11th edition of the Ficci Food World India Global Convention for the food business and industry. The theme of this year’s Food World conference is ‘Capitalising Food Processing in the Digital Era’.

Inaugurating the event, Prabhu said that with an increase in output from the agriculture and horticulture sector a rise in food processing activities is inevitable, which inadvertently means that India will be able to cater to the international markets by exporting more processed foods in the future.

“This segment needs to be exploited aggressively apart from exporting Indian food products for use by Indians overseas,” he said, adding that the food processing industry should develop products keeping in mind the palate and preferences of consumers in the export markets. According to Prabhu, ready-to-eat food produced under proper safety and standards carry great potential for the manufacturing sector.

Speaking about the influx of technological advances in the food-processing sector, the minister added that despite substantial transitions brought in my sudden technological changes, the food-processing sector will survive. “We are trying to identify sectors which would be growing at a much faster rate than before, and clearly, in my opinion, food is one such sector,” he said.

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) along with the Ministry of Food Processing, Government of India and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), are organizing the Food World India 2018.
