Soylent Recalls Its Soylent Bars After They Make People Uncontrollably Sick

on

Alternative food company, Soylent has recalled its new line of food bars after it received a host of complaints that they were making customers uncontrollably sick.

The Meal Replacement Plan

Soylent was founded as a ‘future of food’ company, which looked at replacing less sustainable food sources like meat with foods that are quick and easy to eat and contain all the nutrition a human could possibly need.

Soylent began by launching soylent powder which was prepared as a drink followed by a bottle of Soylent which came in liquid form followed by Coffeist followed by Soylent bars.

The Bar Problem

The bars were launched in August 2016 and were touted as a 250 calorie snack which would be a ‘normal’ snack replacement.

However, at the end of September and beginning of October several reports emerged that the bars were making people uncontrollably sick. One man said to The Guardian “I thought I was suddenly having something like a sugar crash, but an emergency-level sugar crash like I’d never felt before… I seemingly emptied out my entire stomach and realized that this was probably the worst I had felt in my entire life. I then also had diarrhea.”

Other symptoms included sweating profusely, dizziness and lightheadedness. Following more and more complaints, Soylent announced that it was recalling the bars.

“We take these complaints extremely seriously as we have no greater priority than the quality and safety of our products,” the company said in a statement. “As a precautionary measure, we are halting all Soylent Bar purchases and shipments and are advising our customers to discard any remaining bars in their possession.”

Soylent has begun testing the bars but has not found any specific problem yet.
