South Delhi Caterers Will Now Have To Get A Health Trade License Before Taking Up Contracts

According to latest reports, hosting parties in South Delhi may not be as easy anymore and might also cost a lot more. The SDMC has just submitted a proposal that could deem it necessary for caterers to procure a legit license/permits before taking up party contracts. Though this move will majorly hamper things at the hosts’ and the caterers’ end, it will also largely step up the food quality at gatherings. Here’s how.

Explaining the move, leader of the House in the South Corporation, Shikha Rai, said, “The decision has been taken to make caterers accountable. Currently, a banquet or farmhouse procures a license, but there is no mechanism to put a check on the kind of food they are serving as caterers do not take any license.”

“It has been seen that banquets, farmhouses, lawns, etc. organize social functions in which they serve food to guests from unlicensed vendors under unsafe and unhygienic conditions,” a proposal submitted by the health committee of the SDMC states. The Capital’s South Delhi that encompasses neighborhoods like Mehrauli, Vasant Kunj, and Chhattarpur is popular for its massive number of banquet halls and farmhouses.

A fee structure has been chalked out to put the proposal in action. According to the fee structure, a vendor will have to shell out INR 150 per day to set up an ice-cream trolley and INR 400 for an eating establishment at such a gathering. If the venue has more than 50 seats, INR 1,000 for eating establishment will be charged. Meanwhile, for pavilion or food court in the name of a single owner, one will have to pay INR 500 per stall, The Indian Express reports.

Chairman of the health committee of SDMC, Bhagat Singh Tokas, added that failure in adhering to the provision could result in legal action against the concerned trader. He added that public health inspectors would conduct surprise inspections at 20% – 30% of farmhouses.
