Shrek Donkey’s Waffles Recipe

on

Happy World Waffle Day dear foodies! Waffles, we believe, are golden delights sent by the Gods – while they taste great on their own, they’re extremely versatile – we’ve had savoury chicken and ham waffles, sweet chocolate waffles, fruity blueberry waffles and….well you get the picture don’t you?

Waffles are so popular that they’ve made their appearance in pop culture for years. A couple of years ago, to celebrate World Waffle Day, the Huffington Post put together a collation of waffle moments in films:

And In The Morning, I’m Making Waffles

One of our favourite references from that collection is the scene with Donkey from Shrek. In it, he’s excited about a ‘sleepover’ he and Shrek are having – check out the scene below:

Donkey never actually makes those waffles, but judging by his enthusiasm, we’re sure they would have been great…and involved chocolate. Here’s what we imagine his recipe would have been; enjoy these for breakfast or as a snack through the day.

Chocolate Waffles Recipe

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup white sugar
3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup milk
2 eggs
4 tbsp butter, melted
1 tbsp butter, softened
3/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp milk

Recipe:

Combine the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cocoa.
Add the milk, eggs and butter and whisk well.
In a separate bowl, combine the softened butter, confectioners’ sugar and vanilla extract.
Add the milk and beat well.
Preheat a waffle iron and spray with cooking spray.
Pour the batter into the iron and toast.
Take out of the iron and pour the sugar and vanilla sauce over it.
Serve and enjoy!
