These Restaurants Aren’t Owned By Gautam Gambhir, Yet Carry The Cricketers Name

on

When you own, create, or run something, it is natural to want your name associated with the product. But what happens when you name is printed across a business you have no association with whatsoever? Something of the sort has happened with Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who recently filed a plea at the Delhi High Court to settle the matter.

What’s In A Name?

A Delhi-based restro-bar chain run by DAP and Co in West Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh has been carrying the tagline ‘by Gautam Gambhir’ for some time now and the cricketer want it adjudicated before the unwanted association caused any “irreparable loss and undue hardship” to him as the use of his name makes the restaurant-cum-pubs appear to be “deceivingly associated or owned” by the cricketer.

Amusingly, the mix-up stems from the fact that the owner of the restaurant is Gambhir’s namesake! So probably that’s why Justice SP Garg dismissed Gambhir’s plea against the establishment.

Seriously though, what’s in a name? Apparently, when you’re a public figure, a lot.
