Thepla Recipe (Hindi)

Gujarat takes its food rather seriously, as is evident from their gigantic selection of farsaan (snacks). When sipping tea in Gujarat or with a Gujarati, prepare yourself for an elaborate snacking menu, which your taste buds will savor for ages.

Thepla too is an inherent part of this widely sing farsaan saga. The snack is a soft roti-like bread but spicier and a tad thicker. It involves the inherent wheat flour but with added chili powder, turmeric fennel seeds and asafetida. Follow this thepla recipe to make some.

Mildly-spiced Gujarati snack made with wholewheat flour (atta).
Instructions
  1. आटा, तेल, दही, हल्दी, नमक, और मिर्च पाउडर को पानी के साथ गूध लें। अब थोड़ा तेल मिलाकर अच्छी तरह गूध लें और १० मिनट के लिए रख दें।
  2. सने हुए आटे के १४ भाग कर लें और हर एक को लगभग ५" के गोले में बेल लें।
  3. नौन स्टिक तवा गरम करके हर थेपले को हल्के तेल के साथ दोनो तरफ़ से अच्छी तरह पकालें।
  4. अचार के साथ गरमा गरम परोसें।
