Rava Cake Recipe

on

Homemade cakes may not be all that fancy – unless you are Ina Garten or Laura Vitale – but nonetheless they are delicious. And the best part is that every household has a different recipe for its homemade cake, making it all the more special and unique. One such cake recipe is the rava cake or semolina cake.

Needless to say, that the rava eliminates all the extra calories along with the maida (refined flour) while making the cake delicious and giving it a granular texture. The following recipe also incorporates a number of Indian spices to give your semolina cake a deliciously desi touch. Bake one at home today!

Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together rava, yogurt, softened ghee, and sugar to form a batter. Let it rest for 30 minutes to an hour.
  2. Add baking soda, cardamom powder and other optional ingredients – vanilla extract and sliced almonds. Mix well.
  3. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees (180 degree Celsius).
  4. Line your cake pan with parchment paper and gently grease it with a few drop of ghee. Pour the batter evenly into it. Tap the baking pan a few times on the counter; this will help spread the batter. Sprinkle some saffron strands on top.
  5. Bake for about 25-27 minutes. It will be soggy while it’s hot. Let it cool completely before you cut it into pieces.
