Jazz Up Your Rice With This Paste
Pulikachal is a paste made from dal and spices with a tamarind tang. Mix it into plain rice for a delicious meal!
Instructions
  1. Soak the tamarind ball in warm water for an hour. Reserve the juice and discard the pulp.
  2. Dry fry the coriander seeds, fenugreek, urad dal and six curry leaves.
  3. In a little oil, fry the six red chilies for grinding.
  4. Allow the fried ingredients to cool.
  5. Once cool, grind them to a fine powder.
  6. Fry the mustard seeds for seasoning in the gingelly oil.
  7. Add the chana dal, urad dal and peanuts and sauté.
  8. Add the turmeric powder, hing and remaining curry leaves.
  9. Sauté gently.
  10. Pour in the tamarind extract and allow the mixture to boil for a few minutes.
  11. Stir in the ground powder and cook on a low flame until the mixture becomes thick.
  12. Add the grated jaggery, stir, and remove the mix from the stove.
  13. Serve the pulikachal with rice!
