Mulan’s Smiley Breakfast Porridge

Wushu wakes Mulan up in the morning with this Porridge on the first day of her training. Wasn’t it sweet of him to make the smiley face on top of it too? A traditional Chinese breakfast porridge is hearty and will give you all the energy you need for the day.

It is called Congee and is made with rice cooked with seasonings until it becomes soft and yummy. Make this Happy Breakfast for your family and they will get some extra smile power to face the day.

Instructions
  1. Mix together the rice and stock in a pot on the stove. Use stock made out of Chicken bones that have been roasted, for maximum flavour.
  2. Bring the water and rice mixture to simmering, and simmer it for about 50 minute, or until it reaches the desired mushy consistency. Make sure the rice doesn’t boil.
  3. Once cooked, stir in the spring onions. If desired, you add any leftover boiled chicken or vegetable into the rice .Finely grated Carrot or Beetroot also work very well. Season with Salt and Pepper
  4. In a separate pan, fry two eggs and one piece of bacon. Fold the bacon over into a smiley shape as it cooks.
  5. Transfer the porridge to a bowl, and place the eggs and bacon on top of it in the form of a smiley face.
