Homer Simpson’s Doughnuts Recipe

on

There’s a lot we’ve learnt from binge-watching The Simpsons. That a couch is an important family member. That it’s totally normal when people are yellow in cartoons. And, most importantly, that doughnuts and beer are the answer to all of life’s problems.

Homer Simpson’s Great Loves

There are three great loves of Homer Simpson’s life. His wife, Marge, Duffy beer and doughnuts. Lots and lots of doughnuts.

His love for donuts is evident in almost every episode; in a Tree House of Horror episode, Homer transports himself to an alternate reality where his family is rich and happy but doesn’t have doughnuts. He chooses to go back to regular life where the family lives a mediocre life, but have doughnuts. In another episode, he sells his soul for a donut. In yet another, he begins injecting donuts into his system.

Homer’s favourite donuts, we think, are pink ones with rainbow coloured sprinkles which make their appearance in several episodes.

In a tribute to The Simpsons and Homer’s hilariousness, we’re sharing a recipe for pink frosted doughnuts today. Enjoy them as a snack this weekend with Duffy beer, which you can now buy from stores!

Instructions
  1. Whisk the flour, sugar, yeast and salt together.
  2. Stir in the milk, water and eggs and gently beat into a batter.
  3. Knead in the butter and continue kneading for five minutes until you get a soft dough.
  4. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap and leave to stand until it doubles in size.
  5. Roll the dough into a sheet of 1/2 inch thickness.
  6. Cut out doughnuts with a doughnut cutter.
  7. Cover the doughnuts with plastic wrap and let them stand for an hour.
  8. Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan and drop in the doughnuts.
  9. Once they turn golden brown, flip over.
  10. Fry till the other side turns golden brown and then remove to a wire rack to cool.
  11. Meanwhile, whisk together the ingredients for the glaze, adding enough pink colouring to get the colour desired.
  12. Once the doughnuts are cooled, pour the glaze over them and sprinkle the rainbow sprinkles over the glaze.
  13. Allow the glaze to set and serve.
