Say Yes To Senai

Instructions
  1. Peel, chop and rinse the senai well.
  2. Soak tamarind in a cup of hot water for 15 minutes. Extract its juice and discard the pulp.
  3. Pressure cook tur dal and senai separately for 3 whistles.
  4. Mash tur dal well.
  5. Mash senai also.
  6. Heat oil in a wok, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add asafetida, green chilies, ginger and curry leaves.
  7. Sauté for 2-3 seconds, then add cooked tur dal and mashed senai.
  8. Add tamarind water, salt and cook on medium flame stirring in between for 5-6 minutes or until it thickens slightly.
  9. Remove from heat.
  10. Serve as a side dish for rasam or sambar or curd rice.
