  1. Step 1 Soak urad dal in water for 10-15 mins.
  2. Step 2 Drain and cook urad dal with salt, turmeric powder and 1 cup water till just done.
  3. Step 3 Take care that the dal does not get overcooked and each grain remains separate.
  4. Step 4 Heat oil in a non stick pan. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, ginger and onions and saute till fragrant. Chop green chillies and add along with red chilli powder, tomatoes and saute.
  5. Step 5 Drain dal and add and mix gently. Adjust salt and mix.
  6. Step 6 Chop coriander leaves and add and mix well. You can add lemon juice if you wish. Serve hot.
