Raw Meat e-tailer Zappfresh Raises Fresh Funding

on

According to VCCircle, Zappfresh, an online startup that sells raw meat as well as ready-to-eat products, has raised an undisclosed amount in fresh funding from two investors. The Gurgaon-based startup, which is owned by DSM Fresh Foods Pvt Ltd, raised capital mainly from Indian Angel Network investor Ashvin Chadha and an affluent individual from the hospitality section in Mumbai.

The company plans to use this capital to hire people in key departments and increase capacity.

Zappfresh was launched by Deepanshu Manchanda and Shruti Gochhwal in July of 2015 and offers over 40 items, which includes whole chicken, mutton and pork. They procure their meat from the farms and claims that the customer will receive their meats within 90 minutes of placing the order on the portal. Currently, Zappfresh is only operational in Gurgaon and South Delhi, but for residents outside of Gurgaon, orders are also made, but at a price for delivery.

They have a 3,000 square feet storage and processing unit in Gurgaon, which can manage six tonnes of meat a day. And Zappfresh also delivers about 12,000 orders a month. The company has tied up with cold chain logistics company ColdEx to manage the supply chain and it has also joined hands with e-tailer SRS Grocery to expand within Delhi-NCR.

Last week, EasyMeat.in the Pune-based raw meat e-tailer acquired rivals Nonveggies in an all-cash deal. And earlier this year, Licious raised its Series A round of funding, following a $1 million raised in angel funding.
