In order to diversify their range and provide consumers with healthier choices, PepsiCo India has announced that it plans to launch five new products by early 2017.
“We are moving as an organisation towards creating a healthier portfolio… we have been working on developing products after understanding the local food palette and need for whole grains and nutrition in the Indian diet,” said PepsiCo India VP-Nutrition Category Deepika Warrier to the PTI.
“We believe in offering a range of choices to our customers,” she added. “Clearly there is a ready category momentum (for nutrition backed products)… We have seen that nutrition backed products are growing much faster.. We need to tap that momentum.”
Getting Their Health Game On
Indeed, PepsiCo has already taken large steps towards creating a healthier public image; in April this year it roped Vikas Khanna in as its ‘Nutrition Ambassador’. Recently, it launched two new oats flavors in collaboration with Chef Khanna; chaat style oats and curry magic oats.
At a recent event in Chennai, Pepsico’s Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi said “As lifestyles continue to change, PepsiCo is on a mission to dial up the nutrition in our portfolio. Chef Vikas has provided great inspiration for the company here in India and has played a key role in developing new recipes that are convenient, affordable, delicious and healthy.”
Additionally, in October, PepsiCo pledged to reduce the sugar in two thirds of its beverages globally by 2025.
