The Pepper X Is The Hottest Pepper In The World

on

If you (like me) thought that the Carolina Reaper was the world’s hottest pepper, you would be wrong. It turns out that there are 2 chilis which have much higher Scovilles per unit. The Dragon’s Breath Chili invented by a Welsh chili grower (who would have thunk) at 2.48 Scoville heat units and the new holder of the title, Pepper X which rates at 3 million Scoville heat units!

Pepper X has been in the works for nearly 10 years, and is the latest brainchild chili to come from Smokin’ Ed Currie who is also the creator of the Carolina Reaper!

For those of you that don’t know, a Scoville heat unit is equivalent to one dilution of a chili pepper in water. Heat levels are measured by the number of dilutions it would take to completely eliminate the heat from a pepper. Thus, Currie’s Pepper X would require over 3 million of these dilutions, an amount that no chili in the world has yet to reach.

Currie has already sent his submission to Guinness for Pepper X to claim the official Guinness World Record title of “World’s Hottest Pepper,” and expects that to be confirmed sometime in November. Right now you can find the chili inside of The Last Dab, a hot sauce which is a collaboration between First We Feast, the Heatonist, and Smokin’ Ed himself. While the first batch of The Last Dab has sold out, hopefully, you won’t have to wait long to try the world’s new hottest pepper!
