Opinion: Why Does Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Ice Cream Exist?

on

Food trends have gotten out of control. There, I said it (pretty much what everyone is thinking). The internet is a strange place, where certain ingredients become all the rage, and before you know it, it’s anyone’s guess as to what ‘trending’ dish will be pumped out next (take the example of the avolatte).

Flamin’ Cheetos have been in the spotlight for a while now. There even existed an entire popup restaurant dedicated solely to Cheetos. However, the latest ‘Insta-worthy’ creation is none other than a Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Ice Cream, and I have to say – enough is enough.

The Hot As Hell from Drill’d Ice Cream Mixmasters, a new shop in Orange County, CA, contains vanilla ice cream mixed with Hot Cheetos and topped with even more crushed Hot Cheetos. Even Steve Kim, one of the co-founders of Drill’d told Refinery29 “I tried it for the first time, and my taste buds were just so confused in a very good way.” Um, what?

When one of the main catchphrases for the Hot as Hell is its ability to garner likes on social media, we have to wonder if someone actually thought this was a good idea or if ‘Instagramability’ is sullying the food industry.
