Game of Thrones is one of the few television shows that has caused so much hysteria around the world. There have been very television shows, or movies, for that matter, that has inspired wine, clothes, bars, restaurants, recipes, dishes and the list goes on and on. And to add to that long list of pop-culture infused things is now a bar set up in Edinburgh, aptly called Blood and Wine.
Pop Up Geeks is the mastermind behind this themed bar that not only serves Game of Thrones-themed drinks, but is also decorated and set up in such a way to look like a tavern right out of the series. On their website, the company said, “Maesters have sifted through scrolls, trawled through parchments and painstakingly sampled the many wines, ales, spirits and infusions found within the pages of George R.R Martin’s epic A Song of Ice and Fire series to source only the finest that the Seven Kingdoms have to offer.”
For a true fan, it doesn’t matter if the bar is affiliated with HBO, the television show or George R. R. Martin himself, because if it has everything a fan could want, nothing else honestly matters. Their menu is inspired by actual beverages that characters in A Song of Ice and Fire have enjoyed or imbibed more than once, including wines ranging from Arbor Gold to a Dornish sour red. And like any true pub, they also serve great food like Frey Pies and Lemon Cakes.
It’s the experience of being in a pub adorned with Game of Thrones memorabilia and props that makes the experience even better. But given that the bar is only there for a limited time, you better make your way over as soon as possible. Blood and Wine will only be open on Wednesday and Thursday nights all through January and February. In the mean time, here are some pictures that are sure to send you running for your passport right away.
