on

To better the quality of food and counter the problem of overcharging, the Northern Railways have updated the guidelines for vendors reports Times of India. A new set of guidelines have been issued and have been made mandatory. Not following these will result in fines and penalties on the vendors. One such guideline is that vendors are to keep a complaint book which will be accessible to the customers.

New Food Guidelines

The Northern Railway Board has also said that rates of all food items should be mentioned on a notice board by the vendors. This board would also contain the number of the board as well as police control room and commercial department officials. In addition to these guidelines, the railway board has also asked the vendors to sell food items stamped by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) stamp.

“Due to rise in complaints related to poor quality food being served to passengers, railways have released new guidelines to food vendors working inside the station premises, and also local officials to conduct proper checks for verifying whether the orders have been implemented or not,” railway sources told the Times of India.

The publication also spoke to Abhinav Singla, director of Ludhiana Railway Station who said, “The railway board has issues a set of strict guidelines to vendors and catering service providers, so that overcharging and other issues related to bad quality of food items being sold by them will come down to some extent. Local railways will ensure the proper implementation of the guidelines, and if someone is found not applying the norms properly, then appropriate action will be taken against him/her as per the norms.”
