Mumbai Dabbawalas Take Part In Chowpatty Clean-Up After Ganesh Mahotsav

Girgaum Chowpatty is a beach where most of the city’s idols are immersed on the last day of Ganesh Mahotsav leaving the place dirty. The Mumbai Dabbawalas who are one of the brand ambassadors of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) participated whole heartedly in the clean-up of this beach post visarjan reports Mumbai Mirror.

Dabbawalas All In For The Clean-Up

“After the Ganesh immersion, tons of sewage and mess washes ashore along with garlands and plastic bags. We have carried out cleanliness drive at Girgaum Chowpatty to clear up the mess after Ganesh Visarjan. This is our initiative to strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swacchata hi Seva’ movement,” Subhash Talekar, spokesperson of the Mumbai Dabbawala Association, told the Mumbai Mirror.

“I urge people to immerse idols in artificial ponds and make use of ‘Nirmalya Kalash’ set up by BMC to put in all the garlands and flowers so that the water doesn’t get polluted. This shall help in maintaining clean and hygienic surroundings,” he added.
