Mumbai Civic Chief Behind The Officials Responsible For Illegal Constructions In Kamala Mills

on

The fire that broke out on a rooftop restaurant at Kamala Mills on Friday has been extinguished but the civic authorities are not backing down on finding the culprits. In the latest updates on the probe, Mumbai Civic Chief Ajoy Mehta wants the names of officials responsible for the illegal constructions at Kamala Mills within 15 days says a report by the Hindustan Times.

Nexus Between Officials And Restaurants

Mehta talked to the publication and said that he believed that there is a nexus between the officials and activists because of no action was taken on the violations. “I have asked all deputy municipal commissioners to not only name officers, but also professional complainants who have been hand in glove with our people to get these illegalities approved. The report will be made on a case-by-case basis. We have also found that most of these complaints are selective and we will put names of these people [complainants] on record,” said Ajoy Mehta, municipal commissioner while talking to the Hindustan Times.

Further reports says that BMC has taken down 600 structures and put a seal on 38 on those not following norms within 72 hours of the Kamala Mills fire. Many cases came out wherein the roofs of the restaurants and pubs were entirely covered as a permanent structure. The establishments are supposed to keep the roof exposed according to the civic body rules and only temporarily cover it during the monsoons that too with the permission of the BMC.
