Namma Makkalu, Namma MTR is the corporate responsibility programme by MTR Foods and they’ve now tied up with The Akshay Patra Foundation to distribute more than one million mid-day meals to about 6,000 children reports the F&B News. The target is to provide these meals to the 60 schools in Surathkal and Mangaluru for one whole year.

Providing Meals To Children

For Namma Makkalu, Namma MTR this is the third year in a row to be distributing mid-day meals. Back in 2015 during its inception, the programme was responsible for providing nutritious meals to 2000 children in 20 schools along with The Akshay Patra Foundation. The second year, the initiative was extended to 4000 children being provided mid-day meals.

“Our purpose at MTR Foods is to bring sustained and enduring change to the lives of the children. The Namma Makkalu, Namma MTR programme is aimed at providing nutritious meals to children to ensure they stay in school and become contributing members of society,” said Sanjay Sharma, chief executive officer of the MTR team while speaking to F&B News.

“With every year of this initiative, we have expanded the number of children we reach out to – starting with 2,000 children in 2015 to 6,000 children today. We hope this initiative, in partnership with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, will bring about a change in the lives of these children,” he added.

Sundeep Talwar, chief marketing officer, The Akshaya Patra Foundation told F&B News that, “The Foundation has been working to touch upon the lives of five million children by 2020 and partnerships such as this reaffirm our belief. We hope this long-running association with MTR Foods motivates more organisations to come forward and support this noble cause.”
