Boy students’ of Mumbai University have been living in a makeshift hostel for about an year now and now are going hungry too reports DNA India. The mess of the hostel has recently seized operations as the operator’s contract has ended.

No Mess No Food

The students were originally given accommodation at the Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil (KBP) Boys Hostel in the Kalina Campus says the report but due to renovation were given makeshift residence at Annabhau Sathe. This was meant for a period of six months but a year has passed and the boy students’ still live in the makeshift premises and now without food.

“The mess has abruptly shut and we have nowhere to go,” said a student who is a scholar student of MPhil to DNA India. “Most of us come from really poor families and cannot afford to pay for food every day. Despite several requests, the University has not started the mess and many of us are skipping meals every day.”

The warden however had a different story to tell. “The mess contract has recently ended and the University is conducting the tendering process to appoint a new contractor,” said Dr Santosh Gite, warden of the hostel to the publication. “We have asked the Garware Canteen to provide food to students until the mess is restored.”
