Pune Shuts Down

Almost half of the restaurants and wine shops in Pune were kept shut on Wednesday as a precautionary measure. The Times of India reports that students suffered the most since they found the mess to be closed too. Ganesh Shetty, the President of Pune Restaurants and Hoteliers Association (PRAHA) told the publication that the restaurants in areas of Hadapsar, Koregaon Park, Swargate and others in which protests were held remained shut on Wednesday.

“The restaurants that were open on Wednesday recorded a 50% dip in footfall as the city streets were near deserted and customers feared stepping out for a meal,” said Shetty while talking to the Times of India. The Vice President of PRAHA, Vikram Shetty added that the restaurants near the Station Road, Baner, Kothrud and Deccan too were shut as a precaution. “The customer footfalls began dipping from Tuesday night itself. Eventually, it came down to half of what we normally see,” he said.
