Mac and Cheese Lovers, You May Want To Read This

An American staple, Mac and Cheese is as delicious as it is fattening. However, it turns out that you might be having your Mac and Cheese with a side of chemicals – not the best! A study by the University of Adelaide and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute determined that phthalates, a harmful chemical was found in 99.6% of all study participants.

The chemical is commonly found in plastic products, adhesives, and soaps. The study shows that lifestyle and metabolic ailments like type-2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and high blood pressure were found more in participants with high phthalate levels. The presence of such chemicals in the body was attributed to consuming food items packed in plastic.

A study by the Coalition for Safer Food Processing & Packaging showed that 29 out of 30 cheese products were found to have traces of phthalates with natural cheese products recording the least and processed cheese items containing the highest amount of phthalates. “Phthalates can migrate into food products during processing, packaging, and preparation. Phthalates tend to be found at higher levels in highly processed or fatty foods.” noted the report as stated on Kleanupkraft’s web page.

So, the next time you’re tempted to heat up that Mac and Cheese perhaps you should opt for some non-processed food instead!
