A Look Into Hugh Hefner’s Simple Yet “Wild” Meals

on

The 91-year-old Playboy, Hugh Hefner, breathed his last this week due to natural causes. While a lot may frown upon his way, there is no questioning the fact that Hefner will be remembered for his flamboyance and the empire that he built over the decades. However, what not everyone knows is that despite all the glitz and glam that surrounded the multi-millionaire, Hefner’s food choices remained simple till the very end.

According to the Playboy Mansion’s executive chef, Hefner was rather particular about what he ate. In fact, a small team was dedicated just to making sure that he was served all the right foods. “I have a staff of 12 full-time chefs who are here around the clock,” said William S. Bloxsom-Carter, executive director of food and beverage for Playboy Enterprises Inc., in a 2011 interview with Gourmet magazine, Yahoo Celebrity reported. “We have a catalog of 31 meals from which Mr. Hefner can request what he’d like to eat at any time of the day or night.”

Further, the team was asked to take special care of the ladies in the house. “We want them to feel relaxed and at home, as if they were in their own kitchen. That’s very important to Mr. Hefner,” Bloxsom-Carter told Haute Living in 2011.

Meanwhile, Hefner followed a strict routine and ate at a particular time everyday. According to the chef, Hefner ate breakfast around 11.30 am, lunch around 5.30 pm, and took dinner around 10.30 pm.

As for what he ate is something that will surprise most, because it does not consist of anything expensive or fancy, unlike the rest of his lifestyle. “He likes fried chicken with mashed potatoes, which is his mother’s recipe. He’s a Midwestern gentleman, so he enjoys those kinds of foods,” Bloxsom-Carter said. “He has two piles of mashed potatoes with a poached egg placed in each one. Pretty wild stuff, but it’s OK.”

It wasn’t just at home when Hefner was picky about his food, even when dining out the millionaire was rather finicky. According to the Telegraph, he enjoyed home-cooked meals so much, his chefs would often send pre-prepared foods from the mansion to the restaurants Hefner planned to visit. “[The models] pick from the menu, but I have lamb chops and a baked potato sent in from the mansion, so [my meal] is set,” Hefner said. Guess there are certain unmatched perks of being a millionaire!
