Kellogg’s Features The U.S. Women’s Gymnastic Team On A Cereal Box

on

The U.S. Women’s Gymnastic Team has taken home enough gold to make for a loaded Indian bride. And to commemorate the win, Kellogg’s announced that the team, which includes Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez and Madison Kocian, will be featured on a cereal box.

Tweaking Traditions

Breaking away from tradition, this time the athletes will be flashing their pearly whites and medals on the Kellogg’s Special K Red Berries cereal box instead of General Mills’ Wheaties. This because General Mills was not an official sponsor of the gymnastic team or the games, a General Mills spokesperson told TIME.

The 2016 Rio Olympics mark “the second consecutive Summer Games that Kellogg’s had a major endorsement win over the General Mills owned Wheaties”, TIME reported.

Moreover, Kellogg’s sponsors the United States Olympic Committee and the USA Gymnastics, which is why it was able to rope in the all-round gold medal winners.usacereal.0.0

The Final Five

“We’re excited to continue the time-honored tradition of showcasing America’s champions on Kellogg’s cereal boxes following their remarkable success at the 2016 Olympic Games,” said Noel Geoffroy, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Innovation for Kellogg’s U.S. Morning Foods.

“By highlighting what gets her started each day–the support of her teammates–Simone has shown us the daily motivations that drive her to be the best gymnast in the world and helped her reach her full potential at her first Games.”

Simone Biles at the Today Show unveiled the cereal box this week. It will feature Biles, who won a gold for individual all-round, on one side and a picture of Biles with the rest of the Final Five on the other side.

We still don’t know whether the ladies will be on the Wheaties box, though.
