Mumbai-based World Trade Centre is roping in all that is green, clean, and healthy as part of the Women of India Organic Festival 2018. Organised annually in Delhi by the Union Ministry of Women & Child Development, the event promotes women farmers and entrepreneurs in the organic field from across India. For its first chapter in Mumbai, the event has signed on actress Juhi Chawla as its brand ambassador.
An environmentalist and a “budding organic farmer”, the Gulaab Gang actress is thrilled to be promoting organic produce in Mumbai. “I sincerely hope that this is only the beginning of increasingly healthy choices that we all make for our families and ourselves. I would take this opportunity to request the Ministry of Women & Child Development to make the Women of India Organic Festival an annual affair here in Mumbai, as it is in Delhi.”
The Mahila Arthik Vikas Mandal, Maharashtra (MAVIM), will organize the five-day-long Mumbai segment of the major event. The festival aims at making Mumbai the next big hub of organic produce that will include everything from spices and wellness products to home improvement and kitchen composters.
“We are very happy to present Mumbai with healthy and pure organic foods. Organic foods contain far more vitamins, minerals, and nutrients than those produced with chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and preservatives. For the nation, too, organic farming is better, as it ultimately reduces the cost of cultivation by 25-40% and increases the income of farmers, thanks to the improved quality of production, as also the quality of the soil. Children are particularly vulnerable to pesticide exposure,” Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, union minister for Women & Child Development was quoted by Zoom.
