“I’ve been served it. I’ve been given it.” Gordon Ramsay On His Experiences With Cocaine

on

His vocabulary is not the only acidic element on Gordon Ramsay’s latest project, which is a documentary for ITV called Gordon Ramsay on Cocaine. The chef talks about and assesses the effects the said drug has on the world. And on his personal life as well.

Cocaine Soufflé

50-year-old Ramsay recalled all his fateful encounters with the class A drug, saying that “I saw cocaine quite early on in my career. I’ve been served it. I’ve been given it”, he revealed, adding, “I’ve had my hand shaken and left with little wraps of foil in it.

“I’ve been asked to dust cocaine on top of soufflés, to put it on as icing sugar… coke’s everywhere. It’s spiralling out of control.”

How It’s Made

Ramsay closely studies the drug, right from its point of manufacture in Columbia. The docuseries follows the chef as he visits a cocoa farmer in the South American country to witness how cocaine is produced from coca leaves. Gordon says on the show, “I’ve cooked some serious shit in my life but nothing quite on this level.”

According to Metro News, “the process is enough to turn your stomach”. To make cocaine, the farmer first dusts the coca leaves with cement powder, before dousing them in suplhuric acid dissolved in water. The leaves are then soaked in gasoline, and then battery acid is used to separate the pure coca liquid from the gasoline.
