She set standards for hourglasses and taught us how to rob U.P. and Bihar. With a flawless body and fit frame, actress and entrepreneur Shilpa Shetty talks about her recently launched book ‘The Great Indian Diet’, Bollywood standards for ‘fit’ and her take on health and fitness.
Why You No Fuller?
“Nowadays everybody is fit, but when I joined the industry, it was rare to see actresses who were into working out. At that time, they wanted that you should be a bit ‘hari bhari’ (fuller), (and they used to say), ‘What is this? You are looking so lean like a toothpick’.
“So I’ve had producers who wanted me to put on weight,” The Indian Express quotes Shilpa.
Well, whether or not she paid heed to her producers, we love what we see when a 90s flick comes on screen!
The Great Indian Diet
Shetty already has a Yoga CD to her name and with the recent launch of her book ‘The Great Indian Diet’ in collaboration with Luke Coutinho, she has reinstated her status as probably the fittest celeb in B-Town.
“It’s all about perspective when it comes to stress. There are some people who stress about not having stress. My life’s mantra has been that the worst things and the best things, both are going to pass and that’s how life is going to be. So you have to be who you are with a positive approach, and gratitude that you have good health,” she beams.
The book has been roping in readers and buyers from all over and was, in fact, topping the Amazon bestseller list earlier this month. So what makes Shilpa Shetty this flawless woman? Let’s take a quick look at her diet and exercise routine, shall we?
What Does She Eat?
This is a question we ask ourselves every time the actor comes on screen and slays all our self-esteem. Here’s an answer!
In addition to a rigorous workout regime that ranges from cardio, to strength training to yoga, Shetty lives off an 1800 calories per day diet, which starts, with amla or aloe vera juice everyday.
She makes it a point to fuel her body right with carbs that score low on the glycemic index. The carbs that her diet includes are mostly brown carbs such as brown rice, brown pasta, brown sugar, brown bread etc.
When it comes to cooking for herself, the Yoga star cooks wholesome foods such as salmon, turkey, veggies etc. in olive oil, which are jam-packed with nutrients.
Her post workout snack comprises a protein shake, eight black raisins, and two dates. To keep unwanted calories at bay, the diva avoids snacking in between meals.
Shilpa abides by a strict diet for six days and delights herself on one cheat day in a week. Oh, so she is human after all!
