As part of its national expansion plans, Swiggy, India’s second largest food delivery company launched its services in Chennai yesterday. With the launch of Chennai, Swiggy has now strengthened its foothold in the country covering all major metro and tier-1 cities. Swiggy, which boasts deliveries under 40 minutes will serve customers from 150 top restaurants across the OMR region initially, and will expand reach to other parts of Chennai thereafter. Some of the restaurants include Saravana Bhavan, Sangeetha Veg Restaurant, Anjappar, PremsGraamaBhojanam, Hotel Junior Kuppanna, Aasife Biriyani, Wangs Kitchen, Hot Chips, Sandwich Square and Jonah’s Bistro to name a few.
Speaking at the launch of their Chennai operations Nandan Reddy, Co-Founder, Swiggy said “Launching in Chennai will further consolidate our positions as India’s favourite online food delivery service. With Chennai, our expansion to all major cities is complete. Our goal is to revolutionize the way India eats – and in covering all major cities, we’re well on our way towards achieving our goal, thanks to our focus on timely and courteous service.”
Where can I use Swiggy?
Some of the areas where Swiggy will provide its services include Adyar, Velachery, Besant Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur and Alwarpet. Apart from boasting great quality of restaurants, these areas are also home to a number of young working professionals Swiggy’s primary customer base. The Chennai launch also happens to be the biggest area launch for Swiggy.
How does it work?
Patrons will be able to order from any of the listed restaurants either through the Swiggy website or the Android / iOS App. One of the key features of the app is the live tracking of the delivery executive as they deliver their order. Swiggy has a time commitment of approximately 30-45 minutes depending on factors like preparation time and the distance between the restaurant and the customer. Ordering food online seems to be the next big thing in the Indian logistics industry and having a short delivery time can make a world of difference between a service that is preferred as opposed to one that is a last resort.
Swiggy is India’s fastest growing online food ordering and delivery platform. Founded in August 2014 with a vision to change the way India eats by Nandan Reddy, Sriharsha Majety and Rahul Jaimini. Swiggy intends to provide a seamless online food ordering experience by the use of custom designed routing algorithms. These algorithms power their own delivery fleet through smart phones. The delivery staff pick up the choicest food from local restaurants and take them to the customer in as little time as possible, thanks to the presence of GPS. Between then and now, Swiggy has more than 4000 restaurants listed on their platform, each with something different to offer. The amount of initiative taken towards innovation contributed to the 18.5 million USD Swiggy has raised in series A, B funding from SAIF Partners, Accel Partners, Norwest venture partners and an undisclosed global entity. In order to provide a completely seamless experience, Swiggy has ensured that the entire process from picking dishes to checking out can be completed under a minute, and with several payment options to boot: customers can either pay online or cash at the time of delivery. Since August 2014, where they were serving a single Bengaluru neighbourhood, Swiggy is now serving 8 cities across India.
