Hood Food: The Mumbai Guide – The Best Eateries In Byculla

on

Last week, we took you through a written food walk to the best places to eat in Mumbai Central. Parallel to Mumbai Central is Byculla, an equally busy locale that has several hostels, which is the home of the Byculla Zoo and a range of hardware shops.

In terms of food, Byculla is perhaps most famous for Sarvi which dishes out legendary kebabs. However, other eateries in Bycullal are also noteworthy for their non-vegetarian fare. Here’s a complete guide to where you should eat in Byculla.

Street Food

Streetfood

When it comes to street food, a popular destination in Byculla is Graduate Vada pav that stuffs fat golden vadas into soft pavs. Behind the Seva Niketan Hostel, there’s a nameless kebab stall that serves deliciously juicy kebabs while outside the Byculla Zoo is a chaat stall with a wonderful variety of chaat.

Of course, Sarvi, famous for its tender succulent kebabs is by far the most famous street food destination in the area.

Non Vegetarian

NonVeg

While Sarvi is a street food joint, it also has an indoor seating area for customers who prefer sitting and dining. We also love Afzal restaurant for its Mughlai non vegetarian fare and Gloria for its amazing seafood cooked Indian style.

Hotel Sigdi, which serves kebabs and barbecued meats is another destination for carnivores as is Haji Tikka Corner  loved for its – you got it – tandoor prepared tikkas. For more upscale dining, we love Persian Darbar which serves North Indian delicacies.

Pure Veg

PUre

If you lean more towards vegetarianism head to Udipi Krishna which serves authentic vegetarian South Indian fare like dosas and iddlis. Satkar serves Chinese Indian fusion snack food like paneer chilly and manchurian as well as indulgent cheese pizzas. St Mary’s Pizza Corner is another eatery you can visit if you’re craving pure vegetarian pizzas.

Fine Dining

Persian

In the mood to splurge? Head to the Comfort Inn Heritage, an upscale hotel to Nizam’s Heritage, their fine dining restaurant that serves Hyderabadi and Mughlai food. The hotel also has Deccan Bar, which is a formal place to enjoy drinks.

While it’s not exactly fine dining, Persian Darbar is another option for an upscale meal.

Just Desserts

Just

Once you’re done stuffing your face with starters and mains, head to the legendary Suleman Usman Mithaiwala for dessert – his jalebis, barfi and kaju khatlis are out of this world. You should also try Taj Ice Creams, a small joint known for their deliciously creamy ice creams and The American Express Bakery for its cakes, pies and tarts.
