We’ve been exploring a lot of the best places to eat in the city in our Hood Food Guides and this week we’ve decided to focus on Mahalaxmi.
The area is perhaps best known for being the home of Mumbai’s famous racecourse that hosts the city’s high class for horse races every weekend. To cater to this crowd, it has a variety of high end restaurants. At the same time, it also has some casual eateries and famous street food joints if you’re on a shoe string budget. Here’s where you should visit:
Gallops is a gem of a fine dining restaurant that has a view of the race course. It’s especially known for its kebabs.
Neel is another fine dining restaurant that serves amazing Indian fare. It also serves a pretty mean Sunday brunch.
Tote On The Turf
A sibling to Neel, Tote On The Turf also served delicious Indian fare. It’s also known for its bar, outdoor seating and view of the racecourse.
Tonic is a nightclub and lounge found just off Dr Moses Road in Mahalaxmi. It has an extensive bar menu, an upbeat vibe and some tasty light bites.
This is yet another night destination with classy interiors and a menu that includes Asian, Thai, Malaysian, Indonesian and Japanese fare as well a range of cocktails and drinks.
Haji Ali Juice Center
One of Mumbai’s most famous juice centers – the Haji Ali Juice Center – occupies a prime sea facing spot at the Haji Ali circle in Mahalaxmi. It serves a range of fresh juice, milkshakes and quick bites.
Found just outside the Lala Lajpatrai College, Raju Sandwich is another popular street food destination in Mahalaxmi. Like is name suggest, it serves a variety of sandwiches – try the Bombay sandwich and the Aloo Slice Sandwich.
