Heritage Foods Has A Happy Year

on

Heritage Foods has seen a sustained financial performance this year and they are expecting a turn around in its retail business which has given 80% returns in the last year alone. The company presently has two major divisions – dairy and retail – and their other businesses like bakery and animal feeds is yet to have any major impact on the financials of the company.

Their dairy business has a strong presence in South India, including Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru. President of Heritage Foods, Dr. Sambasiva Rao said, “We have entered Mumbai and Delhi. In South, we are penetrating into tier II cities such as Mysore, Tirupati, and Vishakhapatnam.”

Along with the geographical expansion, the company has also increased the share of value added products like curd and butter milk to 20% of total revenue from 3% a decade ago. The milk business is more lucrative due to the quick turnover. “Earlier curd was made at home but now the demand for packaged curd is rising and so is for ghee, paneer, butter and cheese,” said Rao. He believes that this will increase the company’s ability to pay the farmers for procuring milk which remains the biggest challenge.

Started in 1992, Heritage Foods was founded by Telugu Desam Party leader and current Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu. It is one of the largest private sector dairy enterprises in the South of India. They also have a food and grocery retailer that is well known all over the south – Heritage Fresh.
