Head To Lady Baga For A Bit Of Goa In The Ooru

on

Goa invokes images of sitting on the beach while gobbling down (you don’t just eat) prawn curry and rice with a side of rava fry and (of course) a cold beer, and honestly, it doesn’t get much better than that. Being the (self-proclaimed) Goan food expert I’ve scoured far and wide for a half decent fish thali, or a restaurant that captures that susegado vibe in the Ooru.

Lucky for us, the Olive Group stepped it up in a big way by bringing Lady Baga to Bangalore. Situated on the iconic Lavelle Road, on top of SodaBottleOpenerWala once you push open the door to Lady Baga you’re taken straight out of the city to a relaxing, beach shack experience that will make you want to crack open a cold one (King’s, of course) immediately.

A gorgeous fountain with mosaic detailing first catches your eye, but you’ll be quickly drawn to the large screen on the side showing a video of Baga corresponding to the time here in Bengaluru. Swinging hammocks and cane chairs are just a few of the seating options in this two-storey delight, where you can even go shopping flea market style!

Goan Delights

Head Chef Abhishek Roy has done an absolutely smashing job while curating the continental fusion and Goan menu. Try Father Lorenzo’s Chorizo (served with pav, of course) or some Prawn Lonche all the while nursing some Moonshine and Hooch, Lady Baga’s very own take on cashew feni.

During lunch hours, a traditional Goan thali is on the menu, complete with kokum water and a shot of Tivol. Of course, you’ll find the usual pork vindaloo, and the chicken cafreal is a must try. While the prawn curry isn’t quite like how they make it at your favourite joint in Goa, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better attempt in the city.

For dessert, we recommend the Cardamom Creme Brulee, and the Serradura for a great end to the meal. If you ask nicely (and are lucky) you may even get some bebinca (with ice cream, just how I like it) to take you back to vacation days.

Apart from all that, you can feast on some delicious burgers, sandwiches, and pasta if you’re not really in the mood for spice. Chef Abhishek Roy has also come up with a special beach shack menu which has the likes of tuna tartare and an avocado quinoa salad on offer, so there really is something for everyone, and what’s more Goan than that?
