Have You Ever Been To A Brooklyn Bar? Then, This Brooklyn Bar Generator Will Crack You Up

on

If you live in Brooklyn, you know their bars, with low lighting, wooden interiors and copious amounts of space are a great place to kick back and relax. But, if you’re in the mood to eat, the menus at these bars can send you over the edge. Some would call their either overly simplistic or overly elaborate descriptions pretentious. Others would call them ‘hipster.’ A funky new website, has been inspired by the menus at said Brooklyn bars and created a menu and name generator, should you ever want to start your own successful Brooklyn bar.

Brooklyn

“Have you recently purchased a bar in Brooklyn, but are completely bereft of original ideas? First, congratulations on joining the thriving Brooklyn bar scene! Secondly, relax! You can use this handy tool to generate a name and menu for your fine establishment – absolutely no imagination necessary!”

The site’s creator who is only identified as ‘Dan’ confirmed in an email interview with the Village Voice that he was driven over the edge by a restaurant’s menu in North Brooklyn, saying that some may be able to figure out the restaurant’s name based on words in the generator.

Brooklyn

“It was one of those menus where, while you might know what the individual nouns and adjectives on the menu mean, none of the actual dishes make any sense,” he imparts. “There was one mention of ‘acorns’ on the menu, which made me think: Is that supposed to be appetizing? Do acorns even have a smell? Are acorns edible? Aren’t squirrels basically the only animal on earth that will even touch acorns? What emotion or images are you looking to conjure in your patrons’ minds when you describe a food as ‘blistered’,” he stated to the Village voice.

As an outlet to his frustration, he created the generator, and, judging by its popularity, is in some good company. The results include a variety of dishes such as a ‘massaged marrow platter’, ‘sardine crumble and awakened watercress’ and a ‘pork belly with invigorated kale toss’. Each dish is accompanied with a number, which one would assume to be the price in dollars, but (of course) is not made clear. Here are some of our favourite results from the generator – head to it and try out your own!
