In an effort to lose the frills and focus on core businesses, Yahoo scrapped its food vertical.
Yahoo’s digital magazines hit screens in 2014. They wanted to target new audiences and keep with the times. Earlier this year, Yahoo released its earnings for 2015 and they seem to imply CEO Marissa Mayer’s strategies have not been working out. Yahoo would have to cut back on some initiatives and do them fast. The internet was abuzz with suspected layoffs too. Martha Nelson, editor in chief confirmed the Yahoo Food shutdown on Wednesday. If word is to be believed, Yahoo Food may not be the only digital magazine Yahoo suspends.
“On our recent earnings call, Yahoo outlined out a plan to simplify our business and focus our effort on our four most successful content areas – News, Sports, Finance and Lifestyle. To that end, today we will begin phasing out the following Digital Magazines: Yahoo Food, Yahoo Health, Yahoo Parenting, Yahoo Makers, Yahoo Travel, Yahoo Autos and Yahoo Real Estate,” Nelson wrote in a Tumblr post.
