on

Mother Dairy, a leading Indian dairy brand has been in the news quite often of late. First, the spotlight was on its tie up with IPL team Delhi Daredevils to become its principal sponsor. Then, it launched a new ice cream flavour; Nolen Gur across Calcutta. This time, it’s being noted for its actions in the North: it will now be offering jute bags at Mother Dairy milk booths and Safal outlets in Delhi and NCR.

About Mother Dairy

Mother Dairy was established in 1974 under Operation Flood, a campaign to make India a wholly milk sufficient nation. Since then, it has included a whole range of dairy products from ice creams to paneer to ghee to its portfolio. Additionally, it also sells edible oils, fruits and vegetables and pulses.

Going Jute

In an environmentally friendly move, the brand will be offering its customers the option to buy reusable jute bags in the place of plastic at Mother Dairy outlets.

Jute

The bags will be sourced from Bird Jute & Exports Ltd, under the Ministry of Textiles. Subsequently, the initiative was launched by the Union Minister of Textiles, Santosh Kumar Gangwar in Udyog Bhawan.

Commenting on the launch of the bags, the Managing Director of Mother Dairy, S.Nagarajan said “”Mother Dairy has always been a responsible organisation that believes in taking care of the environment. We are the only company which provides Token Milk through our milk booths, thereby saving a huge amount of plastic. “By offering jute carry bags to our consumers at a nominal cost we not only address the need for an environment–friendly alternative of carry bags but also benefit millions of our farmers engaged in cultivation of jute. We see it as a good mix of benefits for the consumers, farmers and environment at the same time.”

The bags are available for Rs.25 in milk shops and Rs. 34 (for a larger size) at Safal shops. They can be used multiple times and washed.
