Ganpati Mandals To Get Food Hygiene Lessons From The FDA

To ensure that the food distributed by the mandals is safe and hygienic, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) will educate the Ganpati mandal organisers on hygiene reports DNA India. Samples of food will also be collected for testing by the authorities during the 10 day long festival. This initiative was even carried out last year during Ganpati festival which is celebrated all through Maharashtra.

“All the seven division’s commissioner — Mumbai, Thane, Amravati, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik and Aurangabad have been about the drive to reach out to the mandals. With the help of FDA’s district officials, they will be connecting with the Ganpati mandals. In order to distribute food items as prasad which are not adulterated, these steps are taken,” said Chandrashekar Salunke, FDA food joint commissioner while speaking to DNA India.

The report further says that a daylong workshop was conducted last year education food vendors and mandal organisers on food safety and hygiene. The FDA will also collect samples from sweet shops like every year to keep adulteration in check. Along with prepared sweets, the FDA will also be collecting raw materials being used to make them like ghee, oil and mawa.

“During the festival season, we usually conduct surprise inspection for the regular adulteration drive. Tagging along with Mandal’s helps as a precautionary measure. The Mandal members becoming aware of the food safety needed. A regular check will also be conducted during the festival,” Salunke added while speaking to the publication.
