FSSAI Introduces A Food Portal For Businesses In The Food Sector

In an attempt to provide updates on regulations related to the food sector, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) launched a portal for the businesses in the industry. The portal according to the CEO of FSSAI, Pawan Agarwal focuses on six areas related to the food sector: food standards, consistent enforcement, hassle free food imports, credible food testing and codified food safety practices.

Agarwal also told the Economic Times that 90 percent of the standards has been notified and the rest will happen soon. This information will facilitate trade, ease of entry and the burden of compliance will be reduced. Ashish Bahugana who is the chairperson of the FSSAI, told the publication that the portal will benefit the sector as it holds all the regulatory and safety norms.

He also added that the portal can create a robust environment for the unform implementation of law across the country as spoke to the publication. Amitabh Kant, the CEO of Niti Aayog inaugurated the portal and stated that this move will ensure transparency and predictability of norms. He added that the food regulatory ecosystem should follow the ‘One Nation, One Food Law’ concept.
