Food Delivery StartUp, Bite Club, Stops Operations

on

Bite Club, Gurgaon based startup which provided chef prepared meals has halted their operations due to various problems.

“We are on a temporary halt. While scaling up we faced certain problems repeatedly. So we thought it is better to take a step back, resolve all the problems and then start with the operations again,” founder Prateek Agarwal told Inc42.

In November of 2014, Agarwal, Aushim Krishan and Siddharth Sharma founded Bite Club as a marketplace to connect chefs and consumers. Food lovers could order food through the website or the mobile app, choosing from different dishes on a daily changing menu. They even had home chefs, amateur chefs and professional chefs on board, preparing a wide range of dishes for customers to choose from.

Bite Club raised quite a bit of funding between March and December of 2015 from various investors including Powai Lake Ventures, Aneesh Reddy, Ashish Kashyap and Alok Mittal.

Unfortunately for food tech startups, 2016 hasn’t been a great year, with Zomato shutting down online ordering in certain cities, iTiffin in Bangalore also halted operations and Yumist, another Gurgaon based company, stopped services in Bangalore. Sure, not all food tech startups are suffering the same fate, some have been lucky, but there’s an unsteady balance at this point.
